Echo Ridge has dedicated extensive efforts towards developing a robust and highly realistic emitter TDOA geolocation accuracy characterization software tool entitled DIGSim (Detect, Identify, Geolocate Simulator). This entirely MATLAB-based tool is the culmination of many years of expertise developed in designing and operating geolocation systems in a wide variety of terrains. Our unique understanding of how the propagation environment and instrumentation affect location performance has been captured in the tool, and adjusted based on first-hand experience from the design and mass deployment of geolocation systems. The figures below illustrate some of the control screens which allow the user to manipulate all possible aspects of the simulation which impact detection and geolocation performance, in an intuitive and straightforward way to provide a useful 'what-if' mechanism for modeling and experimentation.

Capabilities

  • Model real-world and theoretical RF emitter geolocation accuracy as a function of sensor position, terrain, multipath, interference, signal bandwidth, integration time, statistical measurement error, timing error, etc.
  • Generate intuitive prediction plots of CEP, HDOP, sensor participation, measurement quality, etc.
  • User-settable parameter manipulation through a GUI interface enables limitless “what-if” scenario experimentation capability.
  • Entirely MATLAB-based, running either through MATLAB or as a standalone compiled executable (does not require MATLAB license).
  • Coupled with real-world live signal measurement capabilities that allow side-by-side comparison of measured versus predicted performance.
  • Built-in help screens.

DIGSim Outputs

  • Real-world Predicted CEP (Circular Error Probable) mapped to geographic area
  • Theoretical CEP mapped to geographic area
  • Probability of Detection vs. geographic area
  • CEP vs. mean sensor spacing
  • Site participation mapped to geographic area & vs. mean sensor spacing
  • HDOP (Horizontal Dilution of Precision) mapped to geographic area
  • HDOP or CEP mapped onto satellite image overlays
